Building on the achievements of the current Central Library, the new Central Library will provide a safe, accessible place where everyone feels connected and welcome.

The Central Library is one of the busiest downtown destinations for Calgarians of all ages.  It is a major contributor to the social, cultural and economic landscape of the city and a unique place of knowledge and innovation.

Each year:

• Over 668,000 Calgarians visit the Central Library in person
• Customers come from all parts of the city, and travel, in total, over 1.3 million
  kilometers to use the Central Library
• Central Library staff answer over 1.4 million questions
• Calgarians borrow over 933,000 items from the Central Library
• Calgarians use over 668,000 books, magazines, newspapers, CDS, DVDs and other items while visiting the Central Library
• Over 22,000 library cards are issued or renewed at the Central Library
• Public computers are in use over 109,000 hours
• Over 25,000 Calgarians rely on public computers to communicate, do research and connect with the digital world
