To date, these are some of your comments and expectations for Calgary's new central library expressed through surveys, focus groups and community consultation:
Libraries reflect a city's view on education and culture. They should be an icon of the city.
[The new central library] should be a place that connects Calgary, a place where Calgarians can develop a sense of community…and enhance the diversity of culture that is in the community.
The library can serve as a stepping stone for development, whether that be immigrant populations or long term residents.
It needs to be a place of significance, one that you will see on every postcard in Calgary.
For it to be a cultural statement, the building needs to become part of the art of the city.
It needs to be a place where people will feel comfortable no matter who you are. …it should be a beacon for downtown, bring energy to the downtown.
